Sen. Wyden’s Energy Committee just released a draft of the legislation  for public review and comment.  The comments from the public are due on Friday, May 24th online, and in hard copy. The webpage and instructions on how to submit comments on the draft bill can be found on the committee’s website here. The discussion draft, a one-page summary, section-by-section analysis, list of questions, and alternative policy options offered by Senators Alexander and Feinstein can be found here.  Documents from Oak Ridge National Laboratory indicate that Illinois near the top of the list of candidate sites.

2.)  THURSDAY June 6, 7-9 p.m., NEIS office :  “NIGHT WITH THE EXPERTS #3” – Dr. Arjun Makhijani of IEER, speaking on Small Modular Reactors and Thorium Reactors:

IEER’s President Dr. Arjun Makhijani will join us for the third installment of the new “Night with the Experts” program NEIS has initiated. He will speak on the issue of Small Modular Reactors, Integral Fast Reactors and Thorium Reactors.  It would be helpful to submit questions in advance by e-mail to NEIS before June 4th, so we can submit them to Dr. Makhijani for preparation.

NWTE is a program set up to provide the latest information and training on nuclear issues, and sound environmental alternatives to the business as usual from the nuclear industry and the regulators.  Sessions are the first Thursday of each month and held at NEIS, 3411 W. Diversey #16, Chicago.

3.)  IL FRACKING LEGISLATION COMING CLOSE TO A VOTE IN SPRINGFIELD:  The Chicago Tribune reports that a “compromise” has been reached on the controversial “regulatory” fracking bill.  This means the IL Legislature may soon vote on the issue.  Please contact your Reps and Senator, and the Governor with your opinions about fracking.
